22 Tips on Creating New Compelling Content for Blogs

Me and like many other bloggers and content creators out there will have days where we don’t have a clue on what new content to create. There will be days where your mind is literally so blank, you think you’ve lost all intelligence. This great infographic gives us 22 tips on ways to create new compelling content.

How To Create New Content

  • Curation – make a list of things. For example, a top 10 of your favourite blogs, top 10 favourite themes, top 10 gadgets…etc.
  • Group brainstorming – get on Twitter or Facebook and ask your followers for post ideas. I’ve done this before and is always a great gold mine in finding new ideas.
  • Interview someone well known in an industry or has some kind of large following. People are always interested in people who are already popular.
  • Enable guests to write content for your blog.
  • Write opinion based posts on something recent or even something from years back.
  • Review products. See if companies will be willing to send out review products to you.
  • Share your success. If you’ve become quite popular, people will always want to know how you got there and what you learned along the way.
  • Share your failures. Sharing parts of your life where you’ve failed can be a great way to find people who have also failed in the same way and how they handled it.
  • Repost or reshare older posts to new readers. I do this a lot on UltraLinx because I get new readers all the time.
  • Watch movies, they can sometimes inspire you. The same goes for books and comics.
  • Watching television can also help you get inspired and keeping up with current trends.
  • Keeping up with current news is the best way to keep up with current trends.
  • Google Trends is a great service in finding out what’s hot right now

Every year Google changes the way it’s search engine acts. They can tweak settings here and there, and add new algorithms over 500 times a year. Many of the changes will be minor and barely noticeable, however some can be very major and can completely disrupt whole industries.

Gone are the days of where you could stuff the header of your site with keywords, these days it’s all about content, social media influence, link backs…etc. It’s all about making your site better for the person coming to it. Creating relevant information, instead of making irrelevant titles to produce traffic.

If you’re into web development and web design, SEO is one of the biggest and most important things you could learn. And SEO optimisation does work, trust me, I’ve optimised UltraLinx as much as possible where I can and because of this I’ve been able to produce lots of traffic, new readers and have keywords leading to my site. Massive New Google Search Engine Algorithm – So Long SEO

At SXSW 2012 Google discussed its plans for a new search engine algorithm to essentially break the barrier between big name sites & home run blogs, and the order they display in your Google Search results.
Search engines work based off indexing keywords. A technique used on all websites, Search Engine Optimisation (SEO), is a method in which words, phrases and links are strategically placed in order to be better optimised for a search engine (this may be intentional or not). The better optimised a page, the higher in the search results it will appear and the more traffic it will generate.
It’s obvious when a page has been over SEO’ed: the same keywords (which would obviously be searched for) crop up time and time again. Large sites will even employ dedicated staff to perform SEO in a bid against their competitors to bring in more traffic.
In the upcoming months, Google’s plan is to rank websites more ‘realistically’. Boosting those sites with quality, original content towards the top of results and useless, SEO infested spam out of view.
Or as Matt Cutts, head of the webspam team at Google, puts it:
What about the people optimizing really hard and doing a lot of SEO. We don’t normally pre-announce changes but there is something we are working in the last few months and hope to release it in the next months or few weeks. We are trying to level the playing field a bit. All those people doing, for lack of a better word, over optimization or overly SEO – versus those making great content and great site. We are trying to make GoogleBot smarter, make our relevance better, and we are also looking for those who abuse it, like too many keywords on a page, or exchange way too many links or go well beyond what you normally expect. We have several engineers on my team working on this right now.
This is quite an exciting change, in theory it may wipe out SEO all together. A ‘level playing field’ Google should be far more interesting and useful, then one ruled by wealthy SEO fueled sites and spam. Matt Cutts will be speaking again at the ‘You&A With Matt’, Search Marketing Expo, Seattle.
